PROP O IS APPROVED

Update:  April 7, 2026:  Based on preliminary election results, voters in the School District of Clayton have approved Proposition O, a bond referendum that will support key facility improvements across the District without increasing the current property tax rate. Find out more about the election.

Prop O: Our Schools. Our Community. Our Future.

On the Ballot: Tuesday, April 7, 2026

Residents of the School District of Clayton will consider approving a $135 million, zero tax rate increase bond referendum on Tuesday, April 7, 2026.

The measure will appear on ballots as Proposition O. Funds provided by Prop O would support an initial phase of facility improvements identified through the District’s Long-Range Facilities Master Plan. This includes:

  • The full renovation of Glenridge Elementary School to better support student learning. While routine maintenance has kept the 97-year-old building operational, many core systems are reaching the end of their useful life and require investment to ensure the facility continues to meet current and future needs.

  • Construction of a flexible Learning Lab at Clayton High School to support hands-on experiences in engineering, robotics, applied math and entrepreneurship.

  • Upgrades to Clayton High School’s athletic campus, Gay Field, to improve safety, accessibility and community use. The turf has reached the end of its usable life, and the field house, press box, stands and parking areas no longer adequately support the many student-athletes, teams and events that rely on the facility.

Prop O is the District’s first bond referendum in 16 years. Passage requires approval by four of out of every seven voters (57.14%).

This bond addresses urgent facility needs so all students can learn, participate and thrive in safe, accessible and effective learning environments without increasing the tax rate.

Project Timelines

Project 1:
Winter 2027 to Spring 2028

Add a flexible Learning Lab at Clayton High School to support hands-on experiences

CHS construction is expected to begin in January 2027. The one-story addition will connect to the back of the school near Adzick Field and will require the demolition of two classrooms to create a seamless connection to the existing building.

Construction is anticipated to take 12 to 15 months. Once complete, the new addition will provide a permanent home for growing programs in engineering, robotics, applied math and entrepreneurship.

Project 2:
Spring 2027 to Spring 2028

Enhance the student experience by upgrading Gay Field Athletic Complex

Construction at Gay Field is slated to take one year, with work anticipated to begin in early 2027. During the renovation, teams will be relocated to other sports facilities so they can continue competing for the Greyhounds.

The Gay Field project includes replacing the turf, adding 75 additional parking spaces, renovating the team locker rooms, addressing structural issues with the existing press box and bleachers, and adding a new concession stand with additional restrooms. The goal is to reopen the facility in early 2028 so student-athletes can compete at Gay Field during the spring season.

Project 3:
Summer 2027 to Summer 2029

Fully renovate Glenridge Elementary School to better support student learning

Glenridge is the most complex of the projects, given the scope of work involved—including permitting, demolition, renovation and new construction. To minimize disruptions to student learning and avoid mid-year transitions, the school will relocate to a Bridge Campus for two academic years (2027–28 and 2028–29).

Although construction is estimated to take
18 months, the additional time will provide continuity of instruction for students while allowing teachers to move into their new spaces, get set up and be fully prepared to welcome students to the new building ahead of Glenridge’s 100th anniversary.

*All timeline estimates are subject to change depending upon a variety of factors, including weather conditions and regulatory reviews/permitting.

The proposed bond issue will maintain the District’s current debt levy of $0.5110 per $100 of assessed valuation, resulting in no increase to the tax rate.
